My
association with scouts And Guides started when
I met their incharge ,Mr. Gurmeet Singh .Before
that I had been climbing and trekking mostly
solo. But teaching mountain techniques to young
Scouts was a different experience and now we
have come long way and have created Junior and
senior level of expeditions. Some have completed
various courses of adventure and very soon we
will start climbing in Himalayas. Here I am
enclosing our recent adventure in Himalayas.
Pindari Glacier trek. We reached Kathgodam by
train and from there we used bus to reach BAGESHWAR
. From here we took jeeps and landed at Sang
around 1.30 PM. , a village from where trek
starts. During our travel ,we encountered heavy
land sliding . Loharklhet is just Three Kms.
from Sang.
DHAKURI
PASS : We started early morning
after breakfast.Very soon we were in Rhododendron
forest. It is steep climb of five Kms. and a good
test of stamina and determination. It is wild life
active area. stories of bear and Leopards, scenic
view of waterfalls enough to create a memory which
haunts. This is most challenging and toughest leg
of this trek.
DHAKURI-KHATI
: The trek is descending and goes through village
outskirts. One can see valley life ,cultivation
and ofcourse jungle is there....Dhakuri is a pasture
and state Govt. has developed Tourist bunglows..bookings
can be obtained from Bageshwar...by phone also...contact
Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam ofiice.Otherwise forest
rest house is there..and if still you did not
get accomodation..pitch your tent and in
case unavailablity...talk to tea shop wala...NO
PROBLEM !!
KHATI
-DWALI : Khati is
well known village.Actuallt this whole trek is
very old and its history goes back to Victorian
era. Lord Curzon was an adventure loving
personality and due to his this passion...all
trek were created for him and his men.Khati
to Dwali trek is slightly upwards..going zig zag
on mountain ridges..gaining gradual hight.For
a moderate walker ..it is 3-4 Hrs. trek.
DWALI-FURKIA :
Here is greatest challenge of the trek...usually
bridge is washed away and trekker has to cross
over flooded stream by doing some circus like
act.It need fearless mind, and well balanced instincts.
I have gone through one of the toughest rescue..where
a little bit of security was not available and
it was all game of courage and balance.A slight
off balance on a wet &slippery log and was
sure death.
FURKIA-ZERO
POINT & BACK :
Reaching Furkia ,and all you observe is sudden
impact of high altitude. There are few causalities
been reported due to high altitude sickness and
few students from Scouts Guides had also experienced
this impact, walking for Zero point is all walking
into clouds and some of rare photographic scenes
can be visualized here. Zero point is where Pinder
Glacier starts but as trekker can not go ahead
due to heavy crevasses area,it is point from where
one can witness majestically of Greater Himalayas.
