Skiing & Snowboarding in Gulmarg - KASHMIR
Gulmarg - kashmir : Gulmarg is located in the Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir and stands at a height of 2,730 meters above sea level. It is about 57 kms from Srinagar, the capital city.

Gulmarg holds a position as one of the highest lift-served ski resorts in the world. This is due to setting-up of a Gandola Cable Car Lift from Gulmarg to Apharwat top. Presently, only the first section of the Gandola, from Gulmarg to Kongdori is operational, giving a downhill ski run of about 3 kms. In addition, three ski lifts and one chair lift also service the resort, which are suitable for beginners and intermediate-level skiing, respectively.

Gulmarg-Things to keep in mind : - Though Gulmarg is more or less safe for tourists, it is advisable that you update yourself with the current law and order situation in the area, before you visit Gulmarg. Gulmarg is very cold, so make sure you carry heavy woolens with you, while you tour Gulmarg.

Skiing & Snowboarding in NARKANDA

64 km from Shimla is one of India’s oldest ski resorts, Narkanda. Narkanda lies at an altitude of 8,100 ft, and is an important horticultural centre. Fruit orchards on the surrounding hills produce some of Himachal’s most luscious apples and cherries, making Narkanda one of Himachal’s pleasantest settlements, no matter what time of the year. What’s good about Narkanda is that it’s still comparatively unspoilt and uncrowded, so you won’t find yourself suffocated by hordes of fellow skiers.

The slopes at Narkanda run the gamut from beginner’s to advanced, from slalom to cross-country. Hattu Peak, 6 km from Narkanda, towers 2,000 ft above Narkanda and has popular ski slopes.

What You Need To Wear On Slopes

The best way to keep warm while skiing is to dress in layers. You will be most comfortable with three warm layers, rather than in one huge woollen monster of a sweater. Many of the modern synthetic fabrics like fleece are amazingly warm and lightweight, well worth the expense.

What to wear
• Woollen Cap - absolutely necessary since you lose much body warmth through your head.
• Warm socks - several pairs (thin and thick) that can be layered and worn
• Gloves and/or mittens
• Scarf or muffler
• Pullovers/Sweaters/Sweat shirts
• Thermal underwear (longjohns)
• Wind proof jacket
• Dark glasses and sun block - you'll be surprised at how strong the glare of the snow is and how the UV rays can burn your skin even though you may never see the sun.
• Snow boots or trekking boots.
