
Road accidents in Himalayas

One person was killed and at least 25 persons were injured when a private bus overturned, near Samot, about 90 km from here on Tuesday, according to a delayed report received here today.
The bus was on its way from Draman to Tikri when it overturned a hillock and rolled down about 20 m.
The official report said the deceased had been identified as Jagdish, a resident of Nagrota Surian (Kangra district).
The injured had been rushed to a nearby Civil Hospital at Samot with the help of locals. Those who had received minor injuries were discharged after first-aid while nine passengers who were stated to be serious had been referred to Dr Rajendra Prashad Government Medical College, Tanda, for undergoing medical treatment, the report said.
The police had registered a case to ascertain the cause of the accident.

More than 30 killed in bus accident
Thirty persons, 16 of them teachers, were killed after the minibus they were travelling in fell into the Chenab near Bandarkot village here today.
As the bus was on its way to Palmar from Kishtwar, a majority of the teachers from Government Higher Secondary School, Palmar, had boarded the ill-fated vehicle.
Among the dead was one Pinki Sharma of Poochail (Kishtwar), who was anxiously awaiting her first salary. But destiny had something else in store for her. Pinki was appointed as a lecturer in education two months ago. Another three teachers were killed in the accident before they could have got their first salary.

Nineteen people were killed as a private bus fell into about 250 metres deep gorge on the Nacrat-Chaju road near Tiwarti, about 70 km from Chamba district headquarters. The sources available here said that the accident took place at about 2 pm as the driver of a 32-seater private bus (HP-44-7786), owned by one Bashir Mohammud, failed to control the vehicle on a sharp turn and it skidded into the deep gorge.
The sources also said that two women - Paro, a resident of Kandoa and Jyoti, a resident of Tikrigarh, who were walking on a link road below the main road were also injured seriously due to landslide that was caused due to the accident. Paro was admitted to Tissa hospital while Jyoti was intially shifted to Chamba district hospital from where she was further referred to Tanda medical college at Dharamsala.
The area is so remote that there is no mobile network there. The information regarding the accident reached Chamba district headquarters through a person travelling on the route. The sources here said the villagers gathered and started the rescue operations before district authorities could reach there.
